She then continued to get her B.A. (Hons) in History (International Relations) at the Universiti Malaya (1973) and Masters (Social Science /Politics) at Michigan State University , East Lansing , USA (1975).
She registered for a Ph.D. degree twice, first at University of Bath , United Kingdom and later at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Pulau Pinang, but both times failed to complete. She may yet surprise friends and colleagues by getting the degree, after all she does consider it as a debt to society to complete it since she was on government scholarship when she went to Bath.

The AFS scholarship was not just a window to the world for Saliha at 18, it was almost like stepping literally into the big wide world since the programme was an international programme with worldwide young participants. Started by veterans of WW2, its message was world peace through international understanding and respect for differences. In Malaysia the programme is now known as Antarbudaya Malaysia . Later in 1996, she was invited to participate in the International Visitors Program (IVP), "American Women In Politics", USIS-USIA ( Malaysia ) which was another invaluable experience for Saliha.
Apart from almost a month of coast to coast immersing in American gender activism and women politics, Saliha had a chance to meet with women activists from various developing countries from Latvia to South Africa and from Singapore to Palestine . The latest international networking that Saliha had been fortunate to participate in was the Linnaeus-Palme exchange programme for students and teachers at the Political science Department, University of Stockholm , Sweden in 2005. There Saliha shared undergraduate teachings with colleagues at the department. These opportunities have in many ways influenced her thinking, her attitude to life, and her career path

Through UKM per se, Saliha has of course benefited from sabbatical leaves, study, research and conference grants, served as Head of the UKM Political Science Department (1990-1992), awarded the Anugerah Khidmat Terpuji (2001), made through the kursus PTK6 at Aras IV in 2004, and appointed to associate professorship in 2003. In March 2006, she was invited to be one of the personalities to be featured in a book to be published by PERTIWI, Biografi Tokoh Wanita Lembah Kelang , but feeling a little too small for such recognition, declined.
Through her career in UKM, she has had opportunities to travel and present papers in various universities and cities including in Indonesia , Singapore , Thailand , Cambodia , Taiwan , Japan , Germany , Sweden , UK and USA . Saliha is now under a two-year contract with UKM (2005-2007), and at the point of compulsory retirement in February 2005, she could actually look back and believe that for a rural girl born way before merdeka , she has not done too badly in the nationalists' clarion call of her generation to mengisi kemerdekaan.
